In preparation for the IPO of Workday, Inc., the founders of the company wanted to expand and formalize the company’s corporate giving program, including a new corporate grantmaking foundation.
csb philanthropic solutions was engaged to help design and develop a multi-pronged corporate giving program, building on the company’s existing employee volunteerism and charitable giving. We researched corporate giving programs at comparable companies, bringing in additional external consultants to provide specific expertise. The result was a targeted environmental scan with comparative profiles and specific recommendations in a written report and PowerPoint summary.
We then worked with Workday employees to clarify and refine the mission, values, and goals for the new foundation, resulting in a focus on education, safety net, and health. We developed recommendations for structuring and staffing the new foundation and designed the initial written grantmaking guidelines, application materials, and selection criteria, to be refined and implemented by the new foundation staff when hired. Based on the blueprint we helped Workday develop, the revamped corporate giving program was rolled out, and the new Workday Foundation was established with a stock grant when the company went public.
